چکیده

A special instrument has been built to measure the coercivity directly on steel sheets without having to cut samples. It will be used to perform the 8000 coercivity measurements which will be needed during the production of the ll'OOO ton of steel sheets for the LEP dipole magnets. The coercimeter allows local and directional coercivity measurements to be made on a steel sheet with an accuracy of 3 % and a reproducibility of better than 1 %. The permeability can also be measured with similar precision. I INTRODUCTION The 3304 dipole magnets of LEP require the production of ll'OOO tons of 1.5 mm thick decarburized steel sheet. As explained in a previous paper [ 1 ] , th is steel , besides having a low coercivity and a high permeability, must also have a very low spread of coercivi ty. The maximum dispersion of ± 11 A m", guaranteed by the manufacturer, is s t i l l too large and a controlled mixing of the steel is necessary. To this end, about 8000 coercivity measurements wi l l have to be performed during production. For such a large number of measurements, classical permeameters (ring or Epstein frame) requiring preparation of samples are excessively timeand steel-consuming, hence the idea to build a "coercimeter" measuring the coercivity direct ly on the steel sheets without having to cut samples.

Design of Nondestructive System for Hardness of Carbonitrided Steel Parts ‎Using Eddy Current Testing Method: Case study on the Tappet Parts

In this paper, a non-destructive eddy current test system was designed to evaluate the surface hardness of the carbonitrided steel parts. For this purpose, various samples of the tappet were used after the surface hardening and grinding operations as control samples and, if necessary, were subjected to destructive and non-destructive tests. Microstructural studies were performed with a microsco...

Comparative Harmonic Loss Measurement of Grain Oriented and Non-oriented Magnetic Sheets Using a High Precision Single Sheet Tester

Abstract: Local flux may be distorted in many regions of core, although total flux is usually sinusoidal. When attempting to predict the loss distribution in materials operating under localized distorted flux conditions, which occur in machines and transformer cores, it is essential that proper account of the waveform be taken. Moreover for development of new magnetic materials and generation ...

Investigation of microstructure and mechanical properties of low carbon steel sheets after severe plastic deformation in corrugation dies

Recently, bulk nano-structured materials produced by severe plastic deformation (SPD) have attracted scientists attention.  Materials produced by SPD are of great importance because of (1) non-porous structure, (2) great mechanical properties such as high strength and toughness and (3) proper dimension for mechanical and physical testing.  Several methods have been introduced for imposing the s...

Measurement and Modelling of the Rubber Resilience based on Ultrasonic Non-destructive Testing in Tires

In tire industry, it is very crucial to evaluate physical and mechanical properties of the rubber which is used for production of the tire, to ensure the quality of the final product. Resilience is an important property of a rubber, which cannot be evaluated through direct measurement in production cycle in this industry. Therefore, non-destructive ultrasonic testing, which has been used in man...
